Promoting Financial Justice for Immigrant New Yorkers

April 14, 2008

On April 14, NEDAP and the NYC Immigrant Financial Justice Network presented the second conference on Promoting Financial Justice for Immigrant New Yorkers.  The conference explored the impact of subprime lending and foreclosures in NYC immigrant communities, including issues affecting low income and undocumented immigrant homeowners.  Presenters also highlighted findings from the first city-wide Immigrant Banking Survey, which gathered information from more than 600 immigrant New Yorkers about their financial services experiences and needs.

More than 60 organizations participated, representing a cross-section of community, consumer and immigrant groups, community development financial institutions, legal services offices and unions.

Break-out sessions engaged participants in developing strategies to fight predatory lending, expand microenterprise opportunities, and promote workers' rights in immigrant communities.
