Internships at NEDAP 

NEDAP runs a comprehensive internship program for undergraduate, graduate, and law students. NEDAP accepts intern applications year-round.

Interns work closely with NEDAP staff and allies throughout NYC to support community economic justice organizing and advocacy.  Past NEDAP interns have prepared GIS maps of lending and foreclosure patterns in NYC neighborhoods; drafted comment letters to banking regulators; staffed NEDAP's financial justice hotline; organized community and coalition meetings; produced know-your-rights material and video segments; worked with grassroots groups to conduct community needs assessments; and much more.

Deadlines for applications are as follows:

  • Fall internship: September 15
  • Spring internship: January 15
  • Summer internship: March 1

Law Internships

NEDAP seeks law interns to work on a wide range of projects, through which interns gain experience in direct services, policy advocacy and economic justice organizing.  Working with experienced attorneys, law interns will:

  • Staff a legal hotline and community law clinic for low-income New Yorkers aggrieved by discriminatory and abusive financial services and credit practices;
  • Assist staff attorneys with a pending class action lawsuit addressing abusive debt collection practices and due process violations;
  • Organize groups around bank accountability, foreclosure prevention, immigrant financial justice and community reinvestment campaigns;
  • Research and write on a range of legal topics, e.g., federal and state financial reform, bank mergers, fair lending laws, redlining, abusive debt collection, use of credit reports by employers, and payday lending;
  • Prepare public comments and testimony on proposed legislation and regulations;
  • Participate in coalition meetings with national banks and regulators; and
  • Draft policy alerts and community legal education materials.
