NEDAP's hotline provides free information, legal advice and referrals to community groups and lower income NYC residents.

Financial Justice Issues Covered by the Hotline

NEDAP's hotline advises low income NYC residents on a range of financial justice issues, including:

  • Discriminatory lending, banking, and debt collection practices
  • Credit reporting
  • Employer credit checks
  • Prepaid debit cards
  • Payday loans
  • "Debt relief" and "credit repair" scams
  • Sending money home (remittances)

 

Not Covered by the Hotline

The hotline does NOT provide information on:

The hotline is available to low income NYC residents and community groups only:  If you are from outside NYC, please do not call the hotline.  Visit www.lawhelp.org or www.naca.net for referrals to free or low-cost legal services in your area.

 

Self-Help Resources

NEDAP's self-help materials answer frequently asked questions about people's rights with respect to credit reporting, debt collection, and other financial justice issues, and how to resolve common problems.  These documents are available in the resources for consumers section of our website.
