NEDAP's 2011 Film Series!

Join NEDAP as we showcase films that explore the origins of the economic crisis; gentrification in NYC neighborhoods; and ways in which communities are pressing for economic justice and self-determination. Screenings will be followed by discussions with filmmakers, community activists, and other guests.

Battle for Brooklyn

July 19

Battle for Brooklyn (2011) tracks the multi-year fight waged by residents and business owners in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights neighborhood, who face condemnation of their property to make way for the controversial Atlantic Yards project.  (93 min.)

Inside Job

Academy Award-winning documentary Inside Job (2010) exposes the truth behind the economic crisis of 2008.  Through research and interviews with financial insiders, politicians and journalists, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry and shows how deregulation of the financial sector brought down the global economy.

Whose Barrio?

Whose Barrio? (2009) highlights conflicting views of East Harlem residents as they watch their historically Puerto Rican and Latino community undergo rapid changes.  Community organizers, tenants fighting against displacement, developers, and elected officials clash over the future of El Barrio.
