Register Now! Immigrant Financial Justice Conference
Join us on April 14, 2008 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm for the second conference on Promoting Financial Justice for Immigrant New Yorkers. The conference sessions, open to community groups, advocates, financial institutions and funders, will explore how the subprime lending and foreclosure crises are affecting NYC immigrant communities. It will also highlight findings from the first "NYC Immigrant Banking Survey," which gathered information from more than 600 immigrant New Yorkers about their financial services experiences and needs. Local groups will discuss strategies to promote fair lending, corporate accountability and community reinvestment.
The conference is organized by the NYC Immigrant Financial Justice Network, and will feature presentations from Asociación Tepeyac, Chhaya Community Development Corporation, NEDAP, New Immigrant Community Empowerment, Project Enterprise, Queens Community House, and others!

NEDAP Releases New Report on Discriminatory Mortgage Lending
In March, NEDAP released a new report, "Paying More for the American Dream: The Subprime Shakeout and its Impact on Lower-Income and Minority Communities." The report examines the lending practices of 35 subprime lenders that went out of business in 2007, and shows high-cost lending disproportionately concentrated in communitites of color across seven U.S. metropolitan regions.
NEDAP issued the report in collaboration with the California Reinvestment Coalition, Ohio Fair Lending Coalition, Community Reinvestment Association of North Carolina, Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance, Empire Justice Center (in Rochester), and the Chicago-based Woodstock Institute.
Click the map for a link to the full report, which includes maps produced by NEDAP for all seven metropolitan study areas.
