NEDAP Opens Legal Clinic in Harlem
NEDAP is excited to announce the opening of the NYC Financial Justice Clinic. NEDAP's law clinic provides one-on-one legal consultation to low income New Yorkers facing discrimination and other abuses in the banking and credit systems. The clinic expands NEDAP's Consumer Financial Justice Project, and is located at the LES People's Federal Credit Union's Harlem branch. The clinic receives clients by appointment only. For information call NEDAP’s Hotline at (212) 925-4929.
Welcome New Staff
We are excited to announce two new additions this month to the NEDAP staff:
Rebeca Gamez Djokic, NEDAP's new Community Education Coordinator, will spearhead our community financial education and fair lending programs. Before coming to NEDAP, Rebeca developed ESL and workers’ rights programs for immigrant families at New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE), in Queens. Rebeca is a 2005 graduate of Princeton University.
Saara Nafici joins NEDAP as the Financial Justice Organizer. Saara will staff the New Yorkers for Responsible Lending (NYRL) coalition, provide technical support to community groups on financial justice issues and organize NEDAP’s annual Community Reinvestment Workshop Series. Saara recently received a master's degree in City Planning from M.I.T. and was active in urban agriculture and environmental education in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as youth education and affordable housing organizing in Boston.
