NEDAP launches NYC Financial Justice Hotline!

The NYC Financial Justice Hotline is for community groups and low-income New Yorkers. The hotline serves individuals and community groups, and provides information and referrals regarding discriminatory banking and credit practices, including problems with:

  • Credit Reporting and Repair
  • Unfair Debt Collection
  • "Courtesy Overdrafts" and "Bounce Protection"
  • Access to Bank Accounts
  • Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT)
  • Fringe Financial Services, such as rent-to-own stores, payday loans, and tax refund loans

Please note: The Hotline does NOT provide information on the following issues:  bankruptcy, debt consolidation and credit counseling, mortgage-related issues, small claims court, and student loans.

Staff Updates

Some changes are under way at NEDAP!

  • Claudia Wilner joined NEDAP's staff in August, as staff attorney to the NYC Consumer Financial Justice Project. Claudia previously worked as a Skadden Fellow at the Mental Health Project of the Urban Justice Center and as a law clerk for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
  • NEDAP's Deyanira Del Rio won a prestigious Charles H. Revson Fellowship, and is now working part time at NEDAP while pursuing studies at Columbia University.  Dey is now the Project Director of NEDAP's Immigrant Financial Justice Project.
  • NEDAP's Communications Director, Kat Aaron, has left NEDAP after 5 years.  She's the new co-director of Radio Rootz, a youth radio training program, and a producer for Wakeup Call, the morning news show at WBAI radio.  NEDAP's Administrative and Financial Justice Mapping Assistant, Joby Thoyalil, has left NEDAP after 2 years to work at NYU and pursue a master's degree in public administration.  We wish them both the best!
