NEDAP Programs

Organizing Support

NEDAP supports community groups organizing for financial justice in New York City by providing a wide range of training and technical assistance.  NEDAP also holds an annual Community Reinvestment Workshop Series to train community groups and advocates on emerging and critical economic justice issues.

Community Education

NEDAP provides community education on a range of economic justice issues, including the high cost of credit in low income neighborhoods, immigrants' rights in the banking system, and predatory mortgage lending.  We also offer a Community Financial Literacy and Justice Course that combines traditional financial education with information about community economic rights.  NEDAP staff is available to conduct workshops, and can also "train the trainers" at organizations that wish to build their own in-house capacity to conduct financial justice education.

Coalitions & Campaigns

NEDAP coordinates two major coalitions: New Yorkers for Responsible Lending, which promotes access to fair and affordable financial services and the preservation of assets for all New Yorkers and their communities; and the Immigrant Financial Justice Network, which works to remove financial access barriers and eradicate abusive practices leveled at low income and undocumented immigrants.  NEDAP also coordinates campaigns around specific regulatory changes or corporate actions.

Research and Mapping

NEDAP provides research and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping to community groups organizing for economic justice in New York City.  We also train groups in how to conduct research using U.S. Census, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), foreclosure and other data.

Consumer Law Project

NEDAP launched the NYC Financial Justice Hotline in 2005, then the only resource of its kind in New York City. The hotline is for community groups and low-income New York City residents, and provides information and referrals on a range of consumer financial issues.

Special Projects

In June 2005, NEDAP convened a national conference on Youth Microenterprise as a Tool for Violence Prevention.  Visit the Special Projects page to learn more about this event and other special initiatives.
